The Mother series began after my own mother suffered a massive brain hemorrhage. She nearly died, and the experience profoundly altered how I understood myself as a woman. It forced me to confront where I was in my own life and the choices that had brought me there.

The work reflects on lineage, inheritance, care, and the complex emotions surrounding choice and loss. The strings attached from Mother to child. It considers the social and cultural expectations placed upon women to bear children, the hierarchies that can exist between mothers and non-mothers, and the quiet grief that accompany the closing of possibilities. It also acknowledges the sacrifices made throughout life, those made consciously, those made out of necessity, and those only fully understood in retrospect.

The materials are repurposed bedding, a choice that emerged from the time I spent beside my mother during her hospitalization. Day after day, I witnessed the stained hospital sheets carrying the physical traces of human existence. Those marks became a point of departure for the series, where the human stain came to represent identity, memory, and lived experience.

I wanted to work with a material that already carries the residue of real life, traces of pain, sadness, depression, joy, love, sex ,intimacy, care, illness, healing, and vulnerability. These impressions, though deeply personal, speak a universal language.
