Traces of a Recording began with a large sculpture constructed from hundreds of deconstructed used point shoes. That work opened up a way for me to bring dance into painting. I became interested in capturing the nature of movement. A rehearsal, or a performance only exists in the moment. I wanted to find a way to record that experience. By tracing my body directly onto the canvas, I began exploring what a recorded movement could look like, not as a documentation of choreography, but as a physical trace.
